Retractable Pool Enclosure

In order to make his outdoor pool usable throughout the year, a private homeowner in Utah built an enclosure for the winter, and every spring he tore it down. In 2008, Uni-Systems Engineering installed a retractable pool enclosure for the owner that can be opened or closed in less than 5 minutes using push button controls. The new system allows for changes between an indoor and outdoor pool based on daily weather conditions, and allows for maximum use throughout the year.

Uni-Systems Engineering designed, supplied, and installed the structure and electro-mechanical drive system for the residential pool enclosure, which covers a 44 by 107 foot area. The retractable section spans between two fixed sections when closed. A traction drive system moves the section along two steel rails to rest over one of the fixed sections when open. The tops of the rails are flat and flush with the concrete, providing a smooth walking surface into and out of the pool area.
