The Minute Maid Park ornamental train runs along 800 feet of track atop the left-field wall. At 56 feet in length and weighing 48,000 pounds, the model is larger than the original 1860's locomotive it represents. The train has become a Houston icon, celebrating home runs and other Astros' feats. The audio system is programmed with 18 different sound sequences, including the music for “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and more familiar train noises like the sounds of pistons chuffing and the chug-chug of the engine. The traction drive system moves the train up to 2.5 miles per hour along the track, and the control system automatically provides related sounds and other special effects. Push button controls allow the operator to manually initiate the effects.
