Job Summary

Uni-Systems Engineering is looking for a Project Lead who is eager to own some work-renowned engineering projects! This role will serve as the Project Lead and Project Engineer for the high-profile projects the company takes on,

The Project Lead is responsible for both the financial and technical success of the company’s projects and reports to the Project Executive.  Leads the day-to-day operations and is responsible for the conceptual development, design, project organization, scheduling, budgeting, implementation, execution, and turnover of the company’s projects.  Provide leadership to the entire team including to Site Superintendent, and field personnel.

The Project Engineer will provide effective engineering leadership, input, and engineering design support on a project basis. Contribute to multiple aspects of projects including design, document, purchase, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the project’s mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.  Provide work direction, technical expertise, and effective communication to the project design team. Utilize strong analytical skills to resolve complex technical challenges.

Some specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and continuity to company projects to ensure design, schedule and profitability goals are achieved through the full life of the project
  • Create project estimate and project proposal with scope matrices
  • Create project schedule, budget, and billings
  • Obtain bids and write purchase orders
  • Responsible for the technical success of the project. Lead and contribute to concept and engineering design development; produce engineering calculations as required for projects and design development of systems, using appropriate analysis software
  • Communicate with client (s)
  • Develop project budget and schedule, monitor budge during project lifespan
  • Coordinate entire project team to achieve project objectives
  • Monitor QA program for shop assemblies and field installation and ensure QA requirements are fulfilled
  • Component selection and vendor qualification
  • Assist in development and design philosophy for assigned projects
  • Maintain calculations and design records for assigned projects
  • Determine requirements and implement prototyping and/or first article testing:
    • Develop prototype designs and test procedures
    • Supervise prototype testing and trouble shooting
    • Write prototype test reports

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree from ABET-accredited institution in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
  • M.S. degree from ABET-accredited institution in Mechanical or Structural Engineering is advantageous
  • At least 5 years of increasing responsibility in technical engineering design skills and project management leadership skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is advantageous
  • Construction experience is advantageous


  • Knowledge of current codes and requirements that apply to the Mechanical Engineering and/or Structural Engineering discipline
  • Advanced understanding of engineering software, most advantageous being SolidWorks and MathCAD
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques and machine shop experience is advantageous
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment/systems and/or a general aptitude to being hands-on is advantageous


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong ability to coach, mentor, and direct others; demonstrated skills in managing people and risks inherent to large construction projects
  • Proficient at using analysis and design software that is relevant to the business
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas concisely to all levels of project team, vendors and customers with the ability to analyze changing information, evaluate and make prompt decisions for solutions on project issues throughout the life of the project
  • Results-oriented with proven ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative, accuracy and professionalism in producing quality work
  • Able to apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to complex projects and business challenges
