Operable Outfield Walls

Miller Park provides Milwaukee Brewers fans with a great day at the ballpark no matter what the weather. On warm sunny days, the  operable outfield walls open to provide an outdoor playing field where a home run ball can actually be hit out of the park. When closed, the translucent outfield walls provide sunlight for the natural grass playing field. Each of the two panels is 140 feet wide, 70 feet high, and weighs 150,000 pounds. The Kalwall┬« translucent panels walls are curved to follow the shape of the playing field.

The staff of Uni-Systems Engineering designed, supplied, and installed the structure and electro-mechanical drive system for the Miller Park operable outfield walls. A chain drive system moves the wall panels along the curved steel rails between the open and closed positions. A push button control station is used to control wall operation.
